The Cabotage Policy which was implemented in 1980 by the Ministry of Transport (MOT) has been requested to be reviewed. A directive came from The National Logistics Council wants MOT to review the policy and make suggestions in six months.

We should expect the Asean Free Trade Area Agreement of AFTA comes into force in 2013. The idea behind this agreement is to eliminate whatever tariff and non-tariff barriers between the member countries. The main objective is to increase the region's competitive edge as a production hub.

Do you know that the guy who've invented containers was a truck driver? It was in 1937 when an American named Malcolm McLean got the idea of using containers for goods. While he was sitting watching dock workers load the goods from his truck onto a ship, he suddenly thought "it would be easier to lift my trailer up and put it on board". Based on this idea he developed "intermodal boxes" (container) which could be transported using any mode of transport, rail, road or sea.

There is an old-fashioned view of the freight forwarder's job. Many think we are either truck drivers of office workers filling in customs forms. To get some idea of what freight forwarder does, let's take a look on the world trade. Global trade is important for everyone. Just imagine that the whole one day world trading today is almost equivalent to the total world trade for the whole year of 1950s.
